Mission Statement

Advanced Counselor Training, LLC was started in 2011 in order to provide quality, science based education for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LCADC) health care professions in need of clinical supervision training. We will provide up to date, science based trainings on clinical supervision with the purpose of preparing healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to be competent clinical supervisors. Our trainings meet the clinical supervision training requirements by the NBCC (for the approved clinical supervisor certificate or ACS) and ICRC (for the certified clinical supervisor certificate or CCS). We also provide up to date, science based trainings on many other topics relevant to the licensed behavioral healthcare professional. These workshop topics meet the training requirements by the NBCC.

About Advanced Counselor Training

Advanced Counselor Training, LLC was started in 2011 in order to provide regular trainings in clinical supervision for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), as regular, on-site trainings were not either not provided at all, provided on a limited basis, or provided at what appears to be a cost prohibitive basis. The regulations require LPCs to either take a graduate level supervision course or receive (their ACS certification for NJ or their 30 hours of continuing education for MI), in order to be considered a qualified supervisor for supervisees (LACs in NJ and LLPCs in MI).

We have decided to offer this training regularly (at least twice a year), to meet the need, and to keep the costs moderate ($595 for the 30 hour training paid to Advanced Counselor Training, plus an additional $110 cost of the ACS application fee paid to the CCE, bringing the total cost to obtain your ACS at $705; well under these other pricing structures currently available in NJ).

The need for LPCs to have specialized training in supervision started in 2009 in New Jersey and 2013 in Michigan. Our first offering of this regularly scheduled 30 hour workshop series was held in the Fall of 2011. The 2nd offering in the Spring, 2012 sold out early! Our Fall, 2012 also sold out as did Spring, 2013. We then expanded out training to a 2nd state (Michigan) and all of our trainings have sold out in both New Jersey and Michigan! This workshop series aims to help LPCs meet the educational requirement of their respective state licensure. Completion of this workshop series will enable any LPC who also meets the other requirements (see our home page for full details) to apply for the Approved Clinical Supervisor Credential. Brief History Regarding the Need for this 30 clock hour supervision training

It all started in NJ. The NJ Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)/Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) regulations state that as of October 5, 2011 all qualified clinical supervisors must have 30 hours of training in clinical supervision and obtain the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) Credential in order to supervise a LAC, or they must have 3 graduate credits in clinical supervision from a regionally accredited institute of higher education.

In March, 2011, the LPC/LAC committee revised the regulations, stating a qualified supervisor will only need their ACS for new supervisory relationships (that start after October 5, 2011). Thus eligible LPCs who intend taking on new LAC supervisees will need their ACS or equivalent.

In response to this regulatory change, Advanced Counselor Training, LLC has committed to offering a 30 hour workshop series at least twice a year, in a centralized location in order to be accessible to those LPCs who live in Southern and Northern NJ (holding the workshop series at the Eatontown Sheraton, located in Monmouth County, NJ).

In January, 2013, Michigan changed its regulations for those LPCs providing supervision services to LLPCs. LPCs who started supervising after January 1, 2013 now need to complete 30 clock hours in counseling supervision, or they must have 2 graduate credits in clinical supervision from a regionally accredited institute of higher education.

In response to this regulatory change, some organizations began this 30 clock hour training in Michigan for $1000, and so we made the decision to expand this popular training into Michigan, operating our first training in the summer of 2013 to a SOLD OUT audience in Troy Michigan. The plans are to continue this training approximately 1-2 times per year, according to demand.

We continue to look into other state supervision regulations for the purpose of expanding this conference to other regions.
